Queer people do not need to offer excuses or defend their own existence. If one could become queer by simply waking up one morning and deciding to become queer, for a day, for an hour, it wouldn’t change the fact that being queer is just as good, as valid, as worthy, as being straight. Providing straight people with reasons or excuses for our queerness simply confirms their suspicions that our sexuality really is their business and that we need to justify our existence to them. This allows heterosexists to continue to believe there is something superior about heterosexuality, and that being queer is a deviation from some kind of normal or default sexuality. There isn’t and it’s not.
We don’t need to justify ourselves to anyone. We don’t need a reason to be queer. Maybe we were born this way, maybe we weren’t. Maybe sexuality is fluid for some people and not for others. It’s totally irrelevant either way. The message we need to send to heterosexists is not that our sexuality was foisted upon us and that they should be “tolerant” and “understanding”. The message is: our sexuality is perfectly valid and none of your business, we offer you no excuses, and we are never going away.”

SmithTip #47
Thou shalt be unsurprised when Northampton is named the #1 city for gay ladies. However, this fact will make thou wonder why thou is not getting laid.
Trying to write this paper on the American Family Association
…which by the way, is actually painful. I keep trying to find more information but instead I just want to sit and cry about the fate of this country.
Anyhow, at this point it’s become so appalling it’s starting to become hilarious, and I recently embarked on the fact that they are boycotting Target because they aired a commercial during Degrassi. Despite just calling it a “destructive program”, this is their actual statement on it:
The Trevor Helpline promotion aired during the “Beat It” episode of Teen Nick’s Degrassi series when teen Riley, the openly gay football captain and starting quarterback, declined reparative therapy for his homosexuality. Not only is Teen Nick now featuring a show that encourages the nation’s youth to embrace alternate lifestyles, but the family retail chain Target Corporation is helping through sponsorship.
Upon discovering that Target Corporation is one of the main advertisers during the shameful and inappropriate program Degrassi, OMM is disappointed and the retail chain needs to be held accountable. At least three Target advertisements appeared during each episode of Degrassi this past weekend. [Seriously? For what they have to say about the show, it sure sounds like these guys watch it more than I do, and that’s really saying something…]
They are openly recruiting teens and children to become ‘gay’ on a program that also promotes the transgender and homosexual lifestyle.
OMM wonders how the helpline helps a child or teenager who may be a bit confused about his or her sexuality, since it openly promotes that “if you call this helpline, you are not persuaded to walk away from the lifestyle. You are persuaded to be proud and embrace it.” Target and Teen Nick are being extremely irresponsible.
I swear, you can’t make this shit up…
^This so, so much! You really shouldn’t expect a reward just for being a decent human being.

Things That Make Me a Horrible Person #6547
The only time I feel insecure about being queer is when I find out that people I hated in high school are too. And that they already have infinite more luck in the dating department than I probably will ever have.
Guh, she is so good. And hellz yes to repping my fellow queer Israeli women!
Complaint #448
I am required to write about queer sex far more often than I have it.
